Top 10 Must Have Side by Side Accessories – Part 2

Here’s Whomoto’s Part 2 of the top 10 must have accessories for your UTV. Check out Part 1 here!

  1. Winch and Winch Mount
  2. Racks/Storage Systems
  3. Full Skid Plate
  4. Doors
  5. Heater

Number 6: Winch and Winch Mount

Whether you need to pull your self out of a muddy situation, help out a friend, or move a heavy load, a winch can be a life saver.  They range usually from about a 3000 lb to 5000 lb rating. We recommend using at least a 4000 lb winch, if you own a relatively heavy UTV or side by side, you may want to go even higher. Another option on many winches is the type of cable: steel or synthetic. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages. Wire is more resistant to abrasion and can handle heat better. Synthetic rope of the same diameter is stronger and more lightweight.

Number 7: Racks/Storage System

If you carry a lot of gear for work or when out hunting, you may find that there simply is enough space to put everything! yamaha-viking-front-rackAdding a front rack or roof rack can easily double the amount of storage you have on your side by side. If you need quick access to items, we recommend getting a front rack. If, like many of our customers, you use your UTV to refill deer feeders a lot, than a roof rack would be a better choice. You can both store and load the deer feed conveniently form your side by side’s top. Shown on the right is the front rack we make for the Yamaha Viking and Viking VI. Head on over to and see what rack and storage options we have for your UTV!

Number 8: Full Skid Plate

polaris-ranger-900-uhmw-skid-plateDriving through rough terrain can easily damage the underside of your side by side. Adding a metal or UHMW skid plate adds loads of protection and can save you from heavy maintenance costs later on. If you only need protection from from large sticks/debris and occasionally a large rock, a cheaper metal skid plate will work just fine. If you do a lot of rock crawling then UHMW is a must. It is a slick, durable plastic, similar to cutting boards in your kitchen. If you have a metal skid plate and are rock crawling, the aluminum or steel will easily get caught on the boulders. With a UHMW skid, you will slide over more easily. WhoMoto offers aluminum, UHMW, and hybrid options, each custom designed just for your vehicle.

Number 9: Doors

Doors can add a sense of security, look great, and most importantly, more room for stickers! In case of a rollover, these can be a real life saver. Doors can either be half or full. Half doors can be great more affordable option to add some protection. If you live a very cold area or want to completely seal your self off from the elements, we recommend full doors. Construction range any where from metal, to canvas, to gel coat (similar to fiber glass). Add a heater with a full set of doors and you are sure to stay warm and cozy even during the harshest weather. Speaking of which, that leads us right into our last must have accessory!

Number 10: Heater

Combined with a full cab system (front and rear window, top, and doors), you wont even know you’re in a side by side. A properly designed heater provides a clean OEM look and relatively simple installation. Many heaters also have a defrost feature. Helping to remove the ice off of your window. Head on over to our shop and pick the specific heater for your vehicle to make winter more bearable.

A-Arm Guards – Cheaper Than a CV Axle

What are A Arm Guards and why do you need them?

Obviously, this article is about CV boot guards. They also go by the names a-arm guards, brush beaters, stick stoppers etc. All the same thing, just different names. Whatever you wish to call them, they can save you a ton of headaches.
The rubber boot at the wheel end of your axle is the CV boot. A stick, heavy brush or some properly thrown stones via the tires will tear one with ease. Inside the boot/s (each driven wheel has one) are some ball bearings in their carriers which are encased in some of the nastiest grease known to all mankind. One little tear in the CV boot and the ball bearings days are numbered. A trip through the woods or across the creek with a torn or ripped boot and you can just about guarantee they’re toast. One grain of sand will completely ruin your day in the wilderness. If you get a cyclic ticking noise when you’re moving or turning, well then they’re already gone.

ricochet-a-arm-guard-for-polaris-rangerCV boot / A-Arm guards mount to your lower a-arms and for the most part installation is a cinch. 3 or 4 P clamps on each one is the general mounting style. A good pair of boot guards will also have some drain holes cut in them for easy cleaning as you don’t want a bunch of mud etc. building up around the boots. Generally speaking a set of 4 will set you back just shy of the $200.00 figure. About the price of just one axle minus the labor to swap one out if you aren’t your own mechanic. For the price of one axle, you can protect all 4 on your vehicle!

Aftermarket boot guards are generally made of steel or aluminum. The boot guards that may be on your stock machine aren’t really worth much if they are the plastic type. Their coverage is minimal and their strength is pretty poor as well. Personally we prefer aluminum as these guys live in a pretty tough environment and steel will just wind up rusting no matter how well the paint or powdercoating was applied.

So if you and your UTV are blazing new trails or if you live where the mesquite grows you may want to invest in a set of these. They really are cheap insurance. Here at WhoMoto we carry several different brands such as EMP but highly recommend the A Arm guards made by Ricochet Offroad. To find the specific set for your vehicle, simply head over to, navigate to your specific vehicle, then click on the body protection sub category. We offer CV boot guards your Polaris Ranger, Yamaha Viking, Honda Pioneer, and more!

  1. Quality Roof
  2. Front Window
  3. Rear Window
  4. LED Light Bar
  5. A Arm/CV Joint Guards

Number 1: A Quality Roof

A high quality roof for your UTV can go a long way in making your rides more comfortable. We recommend staying away from plastic and two piece roofs for many reasons. We get several calls every week from side by side owners who have purchased a plastic roof, only for it to blow off while being trailered home from the dealership the same day they bought it. Along with not being recommended for trailering, they also aren’t as strong as their metal counterparts. A well built UTV roof can hold hundreds of pounds without a problem.

Another side by side top style we recommend staying away from are two piece roofs. The seals joining the the pieces hold up well for the first several months of ownership, but quickly fall apart leaking rain into the cab.

Here at WhoMoto, all of our roofs are one piece and constructed of sturdy 1/8 inch aluminum. They are also finished with a durable, clean, powder coat that will extend the lifetime and sturdiness of your UTV top.

Number 2: Front Window

polaris-ranger-front-windowA front window can help enormously during cold months with wind chill and during the rainy season to add more rain protection than just a roof. There are two main materials of front windows to choose from: glass or plastic; and 3 different styles: fixed, folding, or tip out.

Window Material: What material of front window you want can vary great depending on your desired uses. If you would like to use a wiper system, than glass is a must. No acrylic/plastic window, surface hardened or not, can withstand the abuse of a wiper. Small sand and dirt particles trapped between the wiper and window will create large scratches and gouges within two to three uses.

If you aren’t interested in a wiper, we highly recommend a surface hardened poly window. Surface hardened poly (such as Lexan MR-10) is much more scratch resistant than traditional poly while riding on trails mean your going to be heading through thick branches. Glass is much more susceptible to being shattered than acrylic, check out the chart below illustrating this:

Window Style: As for what style of window you want, you generally choose between fixed, folding, and tip out.

  • Fixed: Simple, usually the cheapest option. If you just need something to keep the wind and rain off your face, this is it.
  • Folding: Just like a golf cart window, these fold down about half way down the window. If you live in an area that can get very warm, laying the top half down can make a world of difference for comfort during the summer months.
  • Tip Out: Fulfills the same purpose as a folding window, allowing more air into the cab when desired, just in a different way carries all of the above styles of windows mentioned, with glass or surface hardened poly options. If you still aren’t sure on what is best for you, give us a call at 352-639-0849!

Number 3: Rear Window

Due to the laws of physics, if you get a front window, a rear window is a must. If you only have a front window, this can cause TONS of dust and small debris to fly into the cab; just like how leaves in the bed of a pick up truck will fly inside if you open the rear window. Rear windows come in a wide range of materials and styles. WhoMoto offers fixed and roll up vinyl rear windows made by us, along with glass rear windows made by Wide Open Company. Navigate to your vehicle in our shop and see what we have to offer.

Number 4: LED Light Bars

If you plan on using your Polaris Ranger or other side by side at night, a quality LED light bar can go a long way! They come in a variety of sizes, from small 4 inch pods up to massive 50 inch beasts, that suit just about anybody’s needs.

Small LED pods or worklights can be placed on the corners of your UTVs roll cage or in a traditional fog light locations to give just that extra bit of vision. The larger 40 and 50 inch light bars can placed on the front and rear of your side by side, easily outshining the stock head lights, turning night into day.

WhoMoto carries a variety of sizes and styles of LED light bars, all industry proven to be of the highest quality and brightness. Click here to see what your options are for lighting up where ever you may be.

Number 5: A Arm/CV Joint Guards

ricochet-a-arm-guard-for-polaris-rangerA arm guards for your Ranger or other UTV are more of an investment than creature comfort. These will protect your CV boots from damage due to rocks, sticks, and other debris, at a price MUCH cheaper than replacing an axle! WhoMoto carries CV guards from who we believe to be the best on the market, Ricochet Offroad. They are made of 3/16″ 5052 H-32 aluminum and have the option of being anodized a variety of colors as well! Select your vehicle from and click on the body protection section to see what we have.

The WhoMoto MK Series of Roofs

Everything you wanted to know about our new…

WhoMoto MK Series Roof for the 900-570 Polaris Ranger Crew Cab

Shown is the MK 9 Roof. Others shown below.

* Simple Installation – All of the MK Crew roofs for the Polaris Ranger come pre-drilled with the mounting hardware included. They require nothing more than a few wrenches to install. For the MK 3 Roof and MK 9 Polaris Crew roof, all wiring for stereo/speakers and LED lighting, both inside and out, are complete with the lighted switch bank located above the driver. The wiring bundle comes through the roof near the passenger rear corner, so running it down the roll cage to the power source is again, a simple job.
Every effort has been made to make the installation as easy, and as simple as possible.

* Compatible with other Accessories – The MK series of roof has been designed to work with every known accessory; OEM Polaris, another aftermarket product, or of course one of our other fine Polaris Ranger accessories. Clearance for your tip out windshield or set of doors will not be an issue.
Have accessories? No problem.

* Unmatched Strength and Complete Weather Protection – This is what really sets the MK roof apart from the rest of the roofs on the market today. All of our roofs are one piece construction. They will not leak! Ever! They also will not rattle, squeak or do any of the annoying things many other roofs on the market are prone to. When the MK roof is mounted to the Polaris Ranger the rubber seals compress and there is no leakage coming in from above the doors, windows etc.
They will not rust and the paint isn’t going to go anywhere. All our roofs are made of 1/8 inch aluminum and once built, everything is then sandblasted and then powder coated. Our aluminum is twice as thick as most other companies, yet still far lighter than a steel top, and only marginally heavier than a plastic top. All mounting hardware is either aluminum or stainless construction.
Unlike many other roofs, the WhoMoto MK roof wont blow off when it’s trailered across the state or country. And you wont have to strap them down.

* And Yes, these roofs as with ALL of our products, are Made in the USA. They always have been, always will be!
